Jake is NOT a Maremma! He is a Smooth Collie but we thought he deserved his own page anyway! Jake came to us at 11 months old - he belonged to Jan Farrar who sadly was terminally ill and needing to rehome her 5 dogs. We'd wanted a Smooth for some time so we offered Jake a home and were honoured when Jan agreed to let us take him. He had been training with her to become her next assistance dog but it was not to be. But the foundation she laid has been a tremendous legacy - from the start Jake was eager to work and keen to learn.
He has passed his Bronze, Silver and Gold Good Citizen tests and is a member of the Tailwagger Training Club's "Display Team"!. He will hopefully restart agility soon with HATS, having had a break as he was getting over excited!
Having Jake has been an eye opener in terms of how different he is in character from the Maremmas - much more sensitive, eager and active. He wants to be with us all the time - sticks so close that we are always falling over him! He also makes Maremmas seem quiet as mice! But he is a delight to have about and it makes a nice change to have a dog that wants to work with you!
