This is largely personal preference. If kept entire, bitches will have seasons on average every six months and will have to be kept
very carefully to avoid unwanted pregnancies. On the other hand males may wander if there are bitches in season within miles! In general we recommend getting a
female if it is your first Maremma, if nothing else because they are slightly smaller and therefore easier to
manage.
If you are not intending to show or breed your Maremma then neutering is recommended. This can be done anytime after the age of about 12 months.
