Bruno was Janet's first Maremma, joining her as a three year old, after three previous homes (not including a prolonged stay with his breeder). It took him six months to really settle, during which time he was unpredictable with strangers and a menace to other male dogs. But settle he did to become a truly devoted companion and friend. He got over his wariness of strangers, becoming a registered PAT (therapy) dog, visiting dementia patients in hospital until his retirement, and being in regular demand in Junior Handling classes as he was gentle enough for even the youngest to manage.
He was born in quarantine and was first generation Italian bred, the litter brother to the well known Ch Sonymer Kynos in the UK, and to Sonymer Karl and Sonymer Kyber who are behind many Australian Maremmas. Bruno himself was neutered and was content to be "uncle" to the pups who happened along.
He was a quiet and devoted companion, a tolerant teacher and, though never a top show dog, he was a great ambassador for his breed.
Sleep well old friend.

"Not the least hard thing to bear when they go from us, these quiet friends, is that they carry away
with them so many years of our own lives. Yet, if they find warmth therein, who would grudge them
those years that they have so guarded? Nothing else of us can they take to lie upon with
outstretched paws, and chin pressed to the ground; and, whatever they take, be sure they have deserved."
