We hope you'll enjoy finding out more about this ancient breed. The Maremmma Sheepdog (or Pastore Maremmano Abruzzese as it is known in Italy) is a wonderful and unique breed. Once you have lived with one, you will never want to be without one. They are strikingly beautiful, loyal, and good humoured. They are independent spirits who offer friendship rather than servility - and can be as delightful and, at times, as exasperating to live with as any friend. They are highly intelligent, sometimes stubborn and strong willed. They have long memories - they remember their friends over years of separation - and will never forget an injustice. A true Maremma is never aggressive or nervous - they are aloof with strangers but tolerant and restrained as long as there is no real threat. They are usually good judges of character - if your Maremma takes a dislike to someone take note!

Cali in Abruzzo

Cali (Sirvente Verlino) is now a genuine Abruzzo dog! He and his owners, Paul and Sandra, have moved to Abruzzo where Cali now has some sheep to look after and views of the Gransasso from his bedroom! Lovely to think of Osca's son going back to Italy. We look forward to having the chance to visit!
