Tellington TTouch: influencing behaviour and balance

orsa
Tellington TTouch, or TTouch for short, is a unique approach to working with animals which focuses on influencing behaviour and learning through touch, leading and groundwork exercises. TTouch recognises that emotional balance is inextricably linked to physical balance and seeks to balance the mind through balancing the body. It is a very positive and cooperative approach to training, emphasising influence rather than coercion, which builds confidence in the animal and strengthens the bond with the owner.

TTouch can be helpful in dealing with behavioural issues, many of which are rooted in lack of confidence (and not in stubbornness or dominance as is often suggested). It is also a very gentle way of introducing puppies to being fully handled and relieving physical tension in older or very active dogs. It is particularly effective with noise sensitivity, separation anxiety, fearful and reactive behaviours. An advantage of TTouch is that it is simple to learn and so can be practiced by owners. Done correctly, TTouch usually improves confidence and behaviour. Importantly, it is non-invasive and cannot do harm.

At Tailwaggers we have a qualified TTouch Companion Animal Practitioner 2, Janet Finlay, who has trained with Linda Tellington-Jones, Robyn Hood, Sarah Fisher and others. We offer full and half day workshops, introducing TTouch and applying it to different situations, as well as one-to-one sessions. We also use it in class situations where appropriate.
